Initiated by the Southside Association and funded by the University of Edinburgh Community Grants Scheme, the project was rooted in the idea of learning through shared experience. The mural was inspired by David Hume’s words, “Beauty exists in the mind which contemplates them,” encouraging people to see the space, and their surroundings, with fresh eyes.
What made the project especially joyful was the number of people who stopped to take part. From curious children to enthusiastic adults, brushes were picked up, conversations started, and the space slowly filled with colour, warmth and a real sense of connection.
